Ashok Sathyanathan has been a lawyer for over 21 years with experience of being in-house and now in practice. As an in-house counsel, he has worked with domestic and multi-national financial institutions in India and overseas including banks and non-banking finance companies. Ashok was previously Head of Legal for the Corporate and Retail Banking business at Barclays Bank PLC in India, and recently their sole legal counsel and country partner of the Wealth and Investment Management business. Ashok has worked with Standard Chartered Bank, ICICI Bank and other financial institutions. He has also practised as a Senior Associate with Kochhar & Co. as part of the banking and finance practice.
Ashok has advised and worked on various corporate lending transactions, external commercial borrowings, cross-border transactions, trade and exports finance, cash management transactions, creation and enforcement of security, investment advisory and related services, retail banking products and transactions, and general corporate and commercial matters. He has worked extensively on the standardization of primary and leveraged finance documentation, and various banking products and services. Ashok has also advised on corporate and commercial transactions viz. asset sale and purchase agreements, business transfer agreements, business acquisition agreements, investment agreements, share swap agreement, technical collaboration agreements, technology transfer or licensing agreements, etc.
Ashok seeks to blend his experience as an in-house counsel with the rigour of a practicing lawyer to strike a good balance between the technical and commercial aspects. He is very commercially minded and understands how things work in practice.
